The Grassmarket used to be a Medieval market area south of the castle
We stayed at #5 Lady Wynd,a "winding close" practically under the castle next to King Stables
It was a nice little 1 bedroom for 45 Pounds per night
Duvet only on the bed, but jacuzzi tub...
We cooked up typical Scottish breakfast-- sausage links, patties, hash browns and blood sausage
Friday was some kind of parade for a snow queen (although she looks like a puppy)
And these kids had paper lanterns with real candles in them!
The parade went up and down the street, ending with the lighting of tree and caroling
The conference hotel was west of the castle with a very Scottish concierge
The views from our very Georgian hotel...
One night we had dinner at "The Dome" a former physicians hall and bank
Someone once told me, Edinburgh doesn't do Christmas, they do New Years like crazy
But this restaurant was all decked out with boughs of holly and LOTS of lights
Like, 1/2 of all the Christmas decorations in Edinburgh were here!
